ââ¬ÅThe Deadline is the Deadlineââ¬Â policy is a good idea Essay
Schools today are now introducing the new policy ââ¬Å"the deadline is the deadlineâ⬠. This essay shall explain why ââ¬Å"the deadline is the deadlineâ⬠a good idea in schools today. It will include the consequences and disadvantages if you donââ¬â¢t follow this policy, with the benefits of following the policy too. This essay shall also include why teachers in our schools today choose to follow ââ¬Å"the deadline is he deadlineâ⬠policy. The benefits off following ââ¬Ëthe deadline is the deadlineâ⬠policy is that when you go up to grade 11 o 12 the teachers will be more strict about this policy, and wouldnââ¬â¢t give you extensions for ââ¬Å"accidentlyâ⬠leaving it at home or ââ¬Å"loosingâ⬠your USB. It will help you later on in life when you get a job. It supports students to take responsibility. And this policy would also help later on in life when youââ¬â¢re in university. The disadvantages and consequences of the policy ââ¬Å" the deadline is the deadlineâ⬠are that if you get so used to not completing or handing assignments or work in or time, in the future when you get jobs it would be hard for you to hand it in on time. And if you donââ¬â¢t do the work, you might as well go looking for another job. Another disadvantage is that, by not handing in assignments it can take your grade down. Teachers today in our schools follow the policy ââ¬Å"the deadline is the deadlineâ⬠because if the teachers didnââ¬â¢t support the policy some students that hadnââ¬â¢t finished or handed it up may use pathetic excuses to get extensions. They also follow the policy as it encourages students to participate in the learning process, it supports students to take responsibility in their learning and it also supports students to develop time management skills. People today agree that ââ¬Å"the deadline is the deadlineâ⬠policy is a good idea, and I agree. It is a brilliant way to help students develop time management skills and to pass school, which means they would get a better chance of getting in to university or to get a good job. Students make up stupid excuses for not handing it in, which is not g oing to help. The deadline is the deadline and if you have trouble with handing it in on time, doing thirty minutes to an hour a night wouldnââ¬â¢t hurt.

My School and Its Teaching Environment Essay
In my school, the teaching environment is very good for teachers and especially for the students. When you see the school, at first you will say ââ¬Å" wow! Excellent facilities, playground for teachers and students, cozy cafeteria and a library with good ambience where you can study comfortably, all classrooms are air-conditioned, enough computers for students with the ratio of 1:1 with internet connection. Each student has internet password as well as the teachers and staffs. The school used Fiber Optic line for internet (this is part of my work where I maintain the internet connection for the whole school). In my first 2 years in this school, I was assigned in Middle School but this year I was transferred to Elementary Department as Head of Information Technology including repair and maintenance with 24 hours a week teaching load for students from grade 1 to 5 (too many works hehehe) forgot to mention at the same time I am one of the administrators for TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) exam. Every year, especially year-end everybody is waiting for contract renewal, thinking who will be renewed and who will say goodbye. If someone will leave then we are thinking who will replace them. Why? Simply because we are waiting for another teacher who will introduce another technique in teaching or I simply put it this way for new teachers: If you canââ¬â¢t beat us, then join usâ⬠¦ hahahahaha! The Culture of this country (Thailand) is almost the same in our country (Philippines) when it comes to being hospitable and respecting other people. They have great respect with each other especially with the old ones. In my school, students develop respect and tolerance for all others, regardless of religion, race, or class. One of the most distinctive Thai customs is the wai. Showing greeting, farewell, or acknowledgement, it comes in several forms reflecting the relative status of those involved. Generally, the salutation involves a prayer-like gesture with the hands, and it also may include a slight bow of the head. This salutation is often accompanied by a serene smile symbolizing a welcoming disposition and a pleasant attitude. Thailand is often referred to as the ââ¬Å"Land of Smilesâ⬠in tourist brochures. There are a number of Thai customs relating to the special status of monks in Thai society. Due to religious discipline, Thai monks are forbidden physical contact with women. Women are therefore expected to make way for passing monks to ensure that accidental contact does not occur. A notable social norm holds that touching someone on the head may be considered rude. Pointing at or touching something with the feet is also considered rude. In every activity we do whether it is curricular or extra-curricular, we always align it to their culture if this is acceptable or not. But since we do have native speakers, sometimes they donââ¬â¢t even care about the culture. They always say that ââ¬Å"Everybody knows what Thailand isâ⬠(for them most of the Thai women are slut, people have already changed) but somehow these native speakers must learn how to adapt into this environment. Yes, maybe that is their perception in this county and they forgot that they are Teachers. Teachers should give moral values and educate them in proper way. One of the problems of this school and even this country, discrimination between Asian and English Native speakers are very obvious. Sometimes they just use these native speakers as front of the school but most of the teachers are Asian who are more dedicated to work and yet under paid compared to these native teachers. Our administrators are composed of Executive Director (owner), Associate Executive Director, Business Director, Curriculum Coordinator, Student Support Coordinator, Principals and PTA. PTA in this school is very active in every. If we have activities either curricular or extra-curricular, the parents are always there to support us. Just to name a few for extra-curricular activities: 1. Students vs Teachers and Staff football match 2. Teachers and Staff vs Parents football match 3. Teachers, Staff and Parents vs Military Personnel Football Match 4. Teachers and Staff Football Match These are some interesting extra-curricular activities that everybody loves to see. Because even the owner of the school also plays in this event. We do have some curricular activities such as: 1. Debate in English(Iââ¬â¢m the coach) 2. Debate in Thai 3. Public Speaking 4. Spelling 5. Story Telling 6. Quiz bee

Article review
Should the Texas Legislature continue to serve as a part-time law making body, only meeting in regular session for 140 days every two years, or should it change to a full-time body meeting in regular session each year? The Texas Legislature should continue to serve as a part-time law making body. It would allow the most important matters to be addressed and taken care of first. The only downfall would be the less important matters may be overlooked. I believe that if the Texas Legislature were to meet in regular sessions each year there would be many changes in the law. I think that only meeting for 140 days every two years allows issues that occur a chance to resolve itself and allows the most important matters to be taken care of. Although having regular sessions would allow the small issues to be brought to the Texas Legislatureââ¬â¢s attention it could harm the process of law making because the more crucial problems could be overrun by the many smaller ones, because of the increased time to resolve certain matters. Should the $7,200 annual salary for Texas legislators be lowered, maintained, or increased? I believe that the salary should be raised to that of a reasonable pay to which a person could live off of. Texas Legislatures deserve to get paid more than minimum wage for the work that they do not just for themselves, but for the state. They make decisions that effect Texanââ¬â¢s lives and with that reason I believe we should raise their salary to an amount that can accommodate their duties as a Texas Legislature. Texas Legislatures do get compensation which is about 168,000, according to The Book of the States, 2010 Edition, vol.42 (Lexington, Ky. : Council of State Governments, 2010), 113-116. This may be the reason many Texans do not want to raise their salary, but this allowance is only for regular and special sessions. The least that we voters can do is increase the pay for Legislatures of Texas because they serve an important role as a part of our state law making. The Texas governor is elected to a four-year term and there are no term limits on how many terms or yearâ⠬â¢s one person can serve as the stateââ¬â¢s chief executive. Should term limits be implemented to restrict the total number of terms or years one person can serve as Texas governor? There should be term limits to restrict the total number of terms or years a person can serve as a Texas Governor, because it allows a Governor who may be better suited for the job a better chance to take office. Just as there is a limit for President, the same rules should apply, when it comes to limitations for serving. If a Governor is allowed to run for as long as he/she is elected than there is no chance for a change of certain policies that can benefit the state. Another candidate may have new and fresh ideas for the state, but have less of chance of being able to implement them because certain voters may favor the Governor already in office. People are also scared of change and tend to stick with what they are comfortable with. Having a new Governor may not be appealing to them. Without a term limit the Governor can be in office for longer than he/she should be.

Discussion - Coursework Example A new division is thus getting the creation, and then gets nested within the already existing management structure. It has a comparison to adding a room onto an existing building. The other aspects of the companyââ¬â¢s operation are left mostly unaffected by the change of adding a different section or department (Morgan, 2006). The newly appointed division heads must get personal with their employees for the growth of the organization. International organization structure can also have divisions, according to geographical location of operations. Structuring of the organization by geographical area is another form of global organizational structure. In dividing according to geographical area, the management usually appoints regional directors in different regions of a country or even a continent. Each of the local managers has responsibility for all the operational decisions within a particular geographical area. The type of strategy is often when a business first moves from only operating domestically to international operations (Linstead, Fulop & Lilley, 2009). Large national or multi-national organizations face significant and substantial communication and logistical challenges. It usually makes regional or geographical area structure necessary for effective decision making and control of the

The Contributions of the FIFA world cup 2010 to the Local Businesses Dissertation
The Contributions of the FIFA world cup 2010 to the Local Businesses in South Africa - Dissertation Example This type of activity is regarded as one of the most fastidious importance to emerging economies and growing commercial countries, such as South Africa. However, comparatively small work has been completed by researchers to reveal the effect of mega-events, such as the football world cup, on informal as well as formal sectors in emerging economies. Known the comparative size as well as strength of the involvement made by informal sector to different economic activities in the developing part of the world, it has been significant to consider ââ¬Å"how an event like the world cup may help shape the entrepreneurial potential of informal and formal sector participantsâ⬠(Venter et al., 2012, p.449). This paper is aimed at providing a detail analysis of different contributions made by this world cup on the local businesses of the country. FIFA world cup and economy of South Africa: It has been well-established that super-events are most expected to possess a considerable effect on t he business as well as socio-economic development of the host nations and localities. Commanding as well as hosting of mega-events, such as the football world cup, has been a means through which regions compete in respect to attracting as well as retaining greater volume of capital mobility through place improvement. Also with the help of re-imaging as well as regeneration of local businesses of these regions has been realised. Particularly, sport hallmark as well as mega-events, which have been hosted on either as a one-off basis or as regular basis, has been transformed as increasingly important in the contemporary period of globalisation. Some of the most high profile illustrations of these super-events would incorporate the ââ¬Å"Olympic Games, the Rugby and Cricket world cups, and the FIFA soccer world cupâ⬠. These events have been provided to create greater level of emphasis on the development of industrial as well as agricultural sector of the developing countries. Sout h Africa being a developing country has also been expected to be greatly helped by the mega-events like the soccer world cup. Several other important works have been discussed by several other researchers regarding the fact that tourism and travel industry of the developing countries of the world (du Plessis and Maennig, 2010, p.2). Key aspects of concern in regard to the hosting of super-events mainly in the developing part of the world relate to process of optimising their effects for economic as well as social development. These issues are also related to the building of greatest level of national identity along with significant volume of foreign policy effects. The distributional as well as allocative benefits of hosting super-events in the developing countries of the world have been scrutinised with many vital observers. These observers have suggested that widespread growth or development benefits cannot be considered as a necessary corollary of the process of hosting of these types of super-events. This is due to the fact that the marginalised groups can be given little benefit (Venter et al., 2012, p.450). Positive contributions in South Africa: Even though potential opportunities for medium as well as large businesses related to the strategy of hosting of super-events has obtained significant amount of academic notice, limited consideration has been intended for the

Understanding management accounting and financial management Assignment
Understanding management accounting and financial management - Assignment Example For this expansion setting up new plant is essential for Flight high ventures plc to increase the capacity. The inception of new plant will require initial outlay of ?4m. Along with this, research and development department is taking another project of product development with two options A and B. In this report these two options are evaluated using different techniques. Two projects A and B both are mutually exclusive need to decide which project is more suitable for the Flight high ventures plc. Both the projects have initial capital investment which is shown in annexure as negative. Project B has initial investment of ?1210000 and project A has lower initial investment of ?968000. Lower initial investment does not signify that it is better to accept or reject because there is difference in economy of scale in those projects. Hence the effect is reflected in profit earning and in cash flows per year. These two projects are evaluated using four different techniques like payback meth od, accounting rate of return method (ARR), net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR) (Collier, 2003, 185-193). Payback for the project A is 2.5 years and for project B is 3.5 years. Hence project ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢ needs 4.5 years to get repaid by its cash flow and project ââ¬ËBââ¬â¢ needs 3.5 years. This pay back period depends on the amount of investment and size of cash inflow. If the project has higher cash inflow at the initial time of the tenure of the project then it will effect on the payback time to be lessened. This concept is an advantage to pay back process as the risk of payment through early payment is reduced in this process. Another few advantages are like easy to calculate, simple concept and consideration of cash not profit only. But this procedure of evaluation has major flaw of non consideration of time value of money. Payback concept does not consider the cash inflow out of the stipulated time which may be for infinite for some projects. Hen ce the project size and the time are not under consideration of this method. (Kay, 2011, p.108) Accounting rate of return of any project is based on the average accounting profit and average capital investment. Here profit is considered in the calculation instead of the cash flow. Profit is counted after excluding depreciation from the cash flow. This ARR calculation has similarity with other calculation for return on investment (ROI) and return on equity (ROE). Only dissimilarity is in denominator. In ARR the main benefit than payback is the consideration of the project life span. Simple in calculation of ARR is another advantage. The result of ARR can help to compare more than one project and also with other financial ratios. But main advantage is similar to payback is, not of considering the time value. Other disadvantages are like not considering the scale of the project and timing (Atrill and McLaney, 2006, p.329- 332). (Damodaran, 2002) In those above two methods risk is consi dered in the calculation but inflation and interest foregone factor is not considered. In the NPV and IRR method time value of money is applied in the calculation. In NPV calculation the absolute size of the project is accounted and also in the discounting factor consideration of calculation of the discounting rate is important (McGrath, 1998). Usually cost of capital is considered in this calculation but this is the main advantage of NPV method, because of the hardness in calculation of cost of capital (Brigham, Enrhardt, 2010, 383). IRR is positive for the projects with unknown discount rate but known cash flows. Like NPV, IRR also considers risk and time value of money. But IRR ignores the change in discount rate and also the gives multiple result for the cash flow with combination of inflow and out flow.

Internal Audit Research Proposal Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Internal Audit - Research Proposal Example The concept of timeliness in internal audit processes means adherence to prescribed deadlines. Internal auditors usually work with a timetable where inception and termination of procedures are definitely stated. Typically, auditing involves interviewing of employees, review of an organizationââ¬â¢s operation documents and administration of survey questionnaires to relevant stakeholders. Occasionally, a given procedure like examination of documents in an office may take longer than prescribed (Krishnan, 2013, p. 231). In such cases, employees working inside the office under examination will be restricted from accessing their respective work stations. On the other hand, those restricted employees have duties and responsibilities which need completion before a stipulated deadline. In this context, the hitch of workplace restriction experienced by employees causes substantial inefficiencies that can negatively impact on an organizationââ¬â¢s practices. Aside from workplace restriction, undue disruption of work environments manifest in form of safeguarding logistical tools of operation. As acknowledged earlier, the main aim of internal auditors is to examine actual operational practices of an organization. In order to execute this task, auditors must access documents and related files containing information regarding individual workflows. In the case of limited clarity, auditors may be forced to mix up documents from different departments as a means of facilitating reconciliation of ledgers (Kothari & Smith, 2004).

Transforming the Enterprise Essay Example for Free
Transforming the Enterprise Essay Introduction In the transformation of contemporary industrial world aspect of the introduction of business technology hay greatly contributed in the expansion of more sectors within the economies. Organizations have been striving hard to attain the goals due ton the highly competitive standards that have been seen. It is from this reason that the aspect of introducing information technology in the business world has manifested to effective performance on the organizations with the use of the technology (Henry, 1996). The strategic use of IT is now a fundamental issue for every business all around the globe. The successful and competent employment of Information Technology necessitate the arrangement of the IT tactics with the business strategies, an aspect à that was not completed productively in the ancient times with conventional approaches .Information Technology significantly have an effect on the competence of the entire à business. The important issue that evolves in this concept entails how the concept of Information Technology can facilitate the realization of aggressive and tactical benefit for the business. The world is currently undergoing thoughtful changes on political, environmental, and social events factors that suggest that stability is rare (Davis and Davidson, 1991). The one thing that will never change for sure is a change itself. These transformations to our globe transmit challenges and chances in that the changes demand dramatic business transformation in order to control those changes and take advantage of opportunities. à The resources for successive uploads in a more and more aggressive and competitive, global setting are frequently being look at by executives all around the world in order to attain the overall successive objectives and goals of their companies and organization. Conventional obstruction such as currencies, directive, state boundaries are relevant to be moved out perpetually. The disputes and prospect for companies are incredible and innovative changes have to be deployed to achieve these goals. To be able to participate in these surroundings demands the revolution of business such that it is able to meet the standards in the marked and lifting itself to apposition that will guarantee effective success. The implication of the business alteration are prolonged and linked to the placement of business strategies and IT tactics (Morton 1990). Dissimilarity is going down amid small and big businesses in the competitive aggressive sectors in that small organization are now successfully in the competition with big industrial successors. The increasingly alliances flanked by small and large companies are on the rise probably to effectively come yup with strategies that are able to facilitate fast development and attain the overall goals of meeting and satisfying the consumers of the products and servicesà that are being delivered. Strategic coalition and most of the association support the business through these transformations by the use of join ventures, holdings, and syndicates. Such preparations can create small companies to be perceived and also have a perception of acting as the other big companies (Henry, 1996). This can also make huge companies experience small and close to the market.à The innovative partnerships have greater than before been on the rice to sustain companies as they progress into worldwide markets. The ââ¬Å"triadâ⬠realm (consisting of USA, the European group of people centred in Germany and Pacific Rim which based in Japan) identified that the most powerful based on their per capital gross general yield are structure the primary advertiser for each and every one foremost industries. Globalization of the activity shows that the most businesses will have to participate in a borderless environment. Success in global markets demands more flexible business structures and achievement of business and Information Technology alignment. The entire work force is changing from blue collar to knowledge workers an attribute that entails highly skilled, self-disciplined; highly specialized personnelââ¬â¢s who are able to generate massive input in the organization. These employees require more increase of edification hold up with the aptitude to contribute to information, acquaintance and understanding. The majority of business and organisations pay their workforce for what they are acquainted with rather than the total output and power they have invested , a factor that has to be changed in order to meet the overall goals of attaining [perfection. The capacity to change human intellectual capital into service is becoming essential. Management skills are changing the conventional function of a management from those in total control to a leader who encourages guides, enlarge and support the employees by setting goals, priorities, and standards (Davis and Davidson, 1991). The goal of serving the widest range of customers needs with the most cost ââ¬âeffectiveness and responsive way represents new competitive strategies within the business world. One new strategy transforms mass production to mass customization. The Companies that are involved in mass customization are flexible and responsive (Morton, 1991). The technology swiftness will amplify and be overblown by new system connections opportunities when they are able to ensure that each and every association is adhered to. Approaches of evaluating the value of investments using traditional measures such as revenues, breakeven analyses are no longer coping with environment demands. These measures were suitable when customers were less demanding and product change was infrequent however the contemporary customerââ¬â¢s satisfaction, quality, time reduction, and moral of employees, should be very much consider .The aptitude of Information Technology to offer the potential of improved invention diversity, decrease the time, support increasing transaction volume (New York Stock Exchange) are good examples of business values that should be consider (Morton 1990). The functions of IT in altering the business Information Technology encompasses the expand range of equipment (computers, data devices, network and communications devices) and services (help desk, application development) used by business to distribute information and knowledge. It therefore provides strategic value to the business. The all round Support of the managerial communications entailing the authorities of the enterprise, key business processes detailing how functions operates and operational skills enlisting daily support of the staff clearly signify three major areas that entail effective management. Information Technology improves product and service quality, improve customerââ¬â¢s service and bring all the communication patterns within the various partners within the organization into constant communication and agreements. The strategic use of IT makes a powerful impact on business nowadays. By the year 2020, 80 % of business profits will come from the enterprises that is builds the business of information (Davis Davidson). The pioneering submission of Information Technology present instant benefits over competitors in that the capability of having technology itself shift the companies and organizations effectiveness in service delivery to a higher standard. With information flowing freely between nations, citizens are open to the elements of innovative products when they turn out to be available all over. Competitors will become more aware and try to carry out similar, improved strategies. There is no industry or organization which is immune from the opportunity from IT, in that the management must always be familiar with successful and efficient tactical management which can be consequent and executed only in the course of the partnership of the production and IT. The association of IT with the business is vital to the concept of renovation this aspect ensures that organizations are able to adversely focus on how IT can strengthen the competitive performance of the company. Organization should think of competitive supremacy, not computing influence. The configuration of business and IT strategies à In its fundamental character, the IT can change the critical temperament of a business. IBM has sponsored the important investigation in revolutionary this insight, which emerged out as a work, started in mid-1980s. It used the results in that research as the basic matter for methods applied in its consultant group. The strategic framework entail that strategic alignment model reflects the view that business depends on the harmony of business policy, IT strategy, managerial communications and procedures. The consideration paid to the accord of IT and the company considerably has an effect on the effectiveness of the business. IT has altered the indispensable scenery of numerous industries. Business and IT policy are in alliance when the à business goals are stimulated by the same strategies. Creating strategies and competitive returns are not new concepts, but use of IT to create those rewards quickly is new. IT can be employed to sustain the business in attaining its goals. IT can also distribute aggressive benefit by being a practical supplier to critical task systems. It is important that the company is as fast in applying IT as its competitors. Strategic advantage and competitive advantage can become strategic necessity and competitive requirement when company lags behind its competitors. For example, the airlines which were unable to present fast act in response to the untimely use of on-line stipulation systems established a loosing ground in their business. This in itself entailed a vital challenge to them therefore improvements had to be made to ascertain the effective examination relief to the people on the ground. Innovative skill will maintain offering new chances for competitive advantage and strategic advantage. Strategic alliance is a constant passage of alteration. IT, itself, does not generate importance, but the business processes that utilize the equipment bring about the overall advantage. Strategic alignment is a method for constantly thinking about how to analyze and derive executive path. Even though most companies have a clear business strategy a certain percentage often lacks a rational skill strategy or path for communications and processes. Business objectives must be well supported and inspired by IT strategies and capabilities whether or not the company has applied IT to transform the company is understanding obscurity in construction of strategic use of IT. Methods for transformation In 1992, IBM created the IBM inquiry and consulting Group to bring its know-how to clients trying to change their business. IBMââ¬â¢s consulting performance has used tactical configuration as a fundamental point for creating techniques used in conducting clientââ¬â¢s activities. The new systems have been combining the most brilliant of previous skill with innovative advancement. The effect has been managed by means of the symbiosis of current consulting knowledge with changes in the industry. IT strategy and planning methods à The methods that can be applied in order to effectively carry out the changes involve the use of UNIX which is a firs and effective software that enhances massive communication within the organizations. IT strategy and planning are key aspects for an enterprise to venture in the competitive environment. Business module and development tactic compel assessment that determine where and how the enterprise will compete. These pronouncements compel the IT policy and development to maintain the business. Companies should have developed a set of solution business strategies that will position their products or services in the markets in which they want to compete. In addition, they should have considered the managerial structure and all the processes that have to be tackled to carry out the business strategies efficiently. With the implementation of business tactics, business structure, and perceptive of process, the creation of an IT strategy will develop a set of IT program that will offer the venture with a hi-tech advantage in competing. Business transformation methods à Business alteration offers a detailed loom to alter an enterprise in the course of entirety eminence management and manufacturing progress manufacturing for business of all category and sizes. The majority of the businesses are under growing stress to improve business performance. Recuperating the old developments by merely applying IT pay no attention to organizational infrastructure, processes, and performance deficiencies (Morton, 1991). Organizational structure, processes, proficiency, that were generating in a very unusual aggressive surroundings should be assessed for occasions of redefinition prior to technology is practical. The competitive environment will continue to change radically. To keep ahead and handle change most of the businesses have no option but to change their business to advanced status hat will enable competitiveness. Business process re-structuring and total quality management provide methods to meet the challenges. Functional methods à Fast prototyping methods get better the ongoing business progression by capturing the business visualization and rapidly representing the significance of the relevance to the organization. The basic principle is to exploit the current IT communications by letting loose the electronic information that is present today on record and presenting the data as information to create serious business decisions. The IT task should turn out to be more important during the creation of business strategies. Relevance of the strategic configuration structure in categorizing a way of change à It is significant to identify that the assortment of an approach to increase tactic and plans over and over again enforce diverse point of view (Morton, 1991). The managerial team must guarantee that it has selected the right approach. Strategic supervision progression should be viewed as vibrant and uninterrupted. In addition, executives should regularly revise their planning process. The preparation process must constantly adapt to guarantee that over time an effective IT strategy, business strategy and communications process is attained. There entail 3 foremost steps concerned with the application of the strategic framework: categorizing the original field turn around and outlook, therefore fitting the technique to the viewing and establishing the approach to be embraced. Identifying the initial field revolve and outlook Inà this concept, the competitive potential ,technology potential, service level and the strategy execution are focused upon in order to come up with a more concrete approach in the execution of this process. Competitive potential The approach focuses on how IT strategy view will be able to reflect how technology influences new business strategies, therefore creating new competitive advantage. This is a management process that considers how IT may be applied to enhance business strategy and that results in the transformation of the organizational infrastructure. Two well documented examples of companies that have exploited the use of IT for competitive advantage are American Hospital Supply (Automated System for Analytical Purchasing-ASAP, an electronic order entry, order tracking and supplies management) and American Airlines, INC. (computerized reservation system). This method is based on Porterââ¬â¢s concept of competitive strategy and value analysis. IT strategy methods are effective for competitive potential entailing a tight link to business transformation. Technology potential Here the focus is on establishing strategic fit for IT .Here IT is used to enable new business strategies. Executives must understand both the technology market as the strengths and weaknesses of their own internal IT infrastructure. Two familiar examples of companies that incorporate technology to assemble the business strategy are Otis Elevator, Inc. and Frito ââ¬âLay, Inc.(Product marketing and delivery). There is a tight link to business transformation here and rapid prototyping techniques are very effective (Henderson and Venkatraman 1993). Service level Strategic management is here a process of deciding how to respond to the wants and needs of a customer. Company decisions such as the one Eastman Kodak Company made to subcontract its data centre operations are well-documented results of an enterprise IT domination decision. There is a tight link to the formation of organization architectures and obtaining and putting into practice scientific plans for system management and network management Strategy execution The strategy recognizes the need to look down from the top and recognize the critical areas for the achievement of the business. Development is implementing to sustain those areas. There is not always IT influence the business strategies here. The move toward is smart for the reason that it recognizes that systems must be developed with strong link to the business strategy and that IT strategy is based on future needs. For example, Google search provider. Establishing the direction We must establish the direction for using our strategy. It should be continuously balance between internal and external factors, business, and IT organizations. Historically, IT has been considered a support function (Henderson and Venkatraman 1993). à The enterprise should recognize and exploit the capabilities of IT to positively affect business and competitive forces. Establishing harmony between IT and business policy should be incorporated as a key fraction of organization development for the enterprise. Without the managerial structure and position of interior progression that reveal the interdependence of the business with IT, the enterprise will not be able to apply innovative opportunities available from IT (Henry, 1996). The importance is to make IT an important constituent of the business and the course of action that sustain the business. It is up to every administrator to take advantage of the information and experience accessible as the business go on board towards being sustainable and highly competitive from improved technology. RESUME Leadership in Organizations à Gary YUKL of New York in Albany is a Professor of Management and Leadership at the State University .I would like to use a review of his book as reference for my resume of this study. His book Leadership the Organizations has a specific focus on managerial leadership in large organizations and it shows the importance of a leader for research methods within the company especially through its transformation process ( chapter 7 Gary Yukiâ⬠¦) The question of how the power is won or lost, and how much power a leader should have are shown in this book, as well as traits and skills approach. Here we can find the important five personality traits, such as: surgency delicacy agreeableness adjustment intelligence All these traits are very relevant to successful leadership and the most important would be: stress tolerance, self confidence, internal control orientation, emotional maturity and integrity. This shows to us that the human factor is one of the most important and relevant variables that are directly influencing the transition process of change in a company and its further growth. One of the most important and difficult responsibilities of a leader is leading change an aspect that is a major factor in its contribution. Yuki suggests in the end of his book that what is missing are mediating variables necessary to explains leadership functions for enhancing processes and organizational change and effectiveness (Gary 1981). Child Rights On Decision Making Young People Essay
Child Rights On Decision Making Young People Essay Children have the same rights as adults. As a vulnerable group, children have particular rights that recognize their special need for protection and also that help them develop their full potential. Children are not helpless objects of charity or a property of their parents. They are recognized as human beings and the subjects of their own rights. A child is an individual, a family and community member with rights and appropriate responsibilities for his or her age and development stage. Children should enjoy the basic qualities of life as rights rather than privileges accorded to them (CRC 2006) Every child whether a boy or girl irrespective of age is unique and has important value as a human being with the right to respect for their human dignity. It has a right to be heard and to be considered in all matters and decisions that concern him or her, a right to be listened to and to be taken seriously (CRIN, 2002). This increases mutual respect and understanding between children and adults. Childrens participation protects them more effectively from abuse and exploitation. When we understand and respect childrens own experiences, we are able to create better protection mechanisms and the children themselves can act as active agents in their own protection. This helps to develop and build recognition of children as independent bearers of rights with a sense of identity and a positive implication for their self esteem (CRIN, 2002). Childrens rights are defined in a wide spectrum of economic, civil, political and social rights. These rights have been labeled as the right to protection and right to empowerment. Some of these rights are: Right to provision: Children have a right to be provided with a good standard of living, education and services, health care and a right to play. These include access to schooling, a balanced diet and a warm bed to sleep in. They also have a right to be protected from neglect, abuse, discrimination and exploitation (CRC, 2006) Children also have a right to participation. They have a right to their own programs and services and to take part in them. This includes decision making and involvement in libraries. Some rights allow children to grow up healthy and free. This include; Freedom of speech, Freedom of thought, Freedom from fear, Freedom of choice and to make decisions and Ownership over ones body. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) provides a framework for addressing not only rights to child protection care and adequate provision, but also for participation. A child who is capable of making his or her own views shall be assured by the parties of the state a right to express them freely (CRC, 2006) The views of the child are given weight according to the maturity and age of the child. A child can participate in the sense of taking part or being present or participate in the sense of knowing that ones actions are taken note of and may be acted upon. The extent to childrens participation will vary between and within societies (CRC, 2006) There has been a clash between the childrens protection and participation rights. Protection rights protect the children against exploitation and abuse for the best interest of the child while participation rights allow children to take part in decisions concerning their lives and a right to freedom of conscious and to hold an opinion. Adults and their childrens views may not always coincide. Many childrens wishes and views are ignored by the adults for the best interest of the child. For instance; Every child is entitled to acquire a name and a nationality. All children registration should be upon birth. The childs name, birth date and parents names are recorded. When a child is given a name at birth, he or she is not given an opportunity to choose a name for himself or herself. The parents do this for the best interests of the child. The child may however, decide to change its name upon reaching the age of maturity. In this case the child is denied a right to participate in choosing its name at first but at later stages of development; the same child can participate in the same by changing to its desired name (CRC). A child has a right to be protected from all forms of punishment or discrimination regardless of their age, race, sex, religion, status, their expressed opinions, activities and beliefs of the family members. As much as a child has a right to religion, to express their opinion, or equality regardless of their age, these are sometimes restricted by their parents or legal guardians. For instance, a child is not at liberty to join a religion cult without the parents interference. It is not because the child is denied its freedom to worship but its for the best interest of the child (CRC). Children also have a right to get and share information and to express them. In exercising this right, they are supposed to be careful not to damage themselves or the freedoms, rights and reputations of others. They may share information through talking, writing or drawing. A childs wishes may be ignored if it is for the best of the child. For instance, a child may be denied the right to express dislike or hatred towards a particular person by hauling insults at the person. On the same, the child may be restricted on the manner of expression. For instance through shouting or screaming or demanding instead of asking politely (CRC). Children have a right of association. They have a right to meet and to join groups and organizations. Not all groups joined by children are acceptable by their parents or guardians; this brings a clash between the childrens right of association and prevention of joining them. Children are also restricted from joining into these groups if they stop other people from enjoying their rights. For instance a rioting group which will probably cause peace disturbance to others, or an outlawed group will not be acceptable that the children join (CRC). Children have a right to privacy. They are protected from attacks in their way of life, their name, families and homes. However, their way of life can be invaded by their parents or guardians if its for their best interests, for instance, when parents suspect that the child may be involved in drugs or other unlawful activities they may be forced to ransack the childs room or personal effects (CRC). Its a right for the children to access information. This they get through the radio, newspapers, television, internet and childrens books. They have a right to choose what kind of information they would like to access and in which manner. However, not all information is suitable or helpful to them (CRC). Most of the information provided by the mass media especially the radio, television and internet is unsuitable to children. It may contain violence, obscenity or strong language. Since these are harmful to the children they dont have a right over them and so their parents or guardians have to protect the children from such by deciding on what is good or bad for them. The parents also have to protect on what their children browse on the internet since they can access pornography or sites with violence which are harmful to the child (CRC). It is a childs right to live with its parents. The child can however be separated from the parents when the conditions are not favorable for the child. Such conditions may be neglect or abuse by the parents or separation by the parents hence the state has to decide on which parent has to live with the child. If the child has no parents the state decides on a home or an institution for the child to live. In this case the child may not have much of a say in the choice of who to live with. Sometimes children run away from their birth homes to live with their relatives or even live on the streets. This may be as a result of poverty or rebellion. The best interests of the child are considered first before the child is taken back to its parents home (CRC). Conclusion Children have a right to participate in decisions that shape their life and therefore should be given a chance to express their own opinion. However, this right is only exercised considering the maturity and the best interest of the child. Not all decisions that a child makes will be supported by their parents or guardians. For instance, a child cannot make a decision not to go school. For the best interests of the child the child will be forced to attend school.

Saint Augustine Essay -- Biography Biographies Augustine Essays
Saint Augustine Saint Augustine (354-430 AD), also known as Augustine of Hippo created an image of himself through his writings and teachings. He was born in Tagaste, a town in North Africa, on November 13, 354 AD. He was born into a middle class family. Patricius, his father, was a pagan, but later converted to Christianity because of his wife, Monica, was a devout Christian. Augustineââ¬â¢s mother, who was devoted to the Roman Catholic church, constantly tried for her son's conversion. Augustine was educated as a lecturer in the former North African cities of Tagaste, Madaura, and Carthage. The philosophical works of Marcus Tullius Cicero, a Roman speaker and politician, inspired Augustine to become a seeker after truth. Augustine engaged restlessly in philosophical studies, and passed from one phase of thought to another, unable to find satisfaction. From 373 until 382, in Carthage, he conformed to Manichaeism, a dualistic philosophy dealing with the conflict between good and evil. This seemed to be the answer to the confusion in his own heart. It solved the mysteries that confused him in his own experience. After realizing that this philosophy wouldnââ¬â¢t make a great ethical system, he abandoned this philosophy. After being educated throughout North Africa, he left Carthage and in 384 found himself in Milan where he would pursue his career of a professor in rhetoric. Also, in Milan he met and was influenced by the bishop, Ambrose. With this, Augustine was at tracted again to Christianity and was baptized by Ambrose in 387. Augustine was also influenced by Platonism. He than returned to North Africa where he became the bishop of Hippo in 391, a title he held until he died. This great ââ¬Å"Father of the Church,â⬠wrote a handbook on the three theological virtues: faith, hope, and love. The Enchiridion on Faith, Hope, and Love was written in the year 420. It is a brief handbook on the proper mode of serving God, through faith, hope, and love. It is easy to say what one ought to believe, what to hope for, and what to love. But to defend our doctrines against the slander of those who think differently is a more difficult and detailed task. If one is to have this wisdom, it is not enough just to put an enchiridion in the hand. It is also necessary that a great eagerness be in the heart. Saint Augustine says that God created all things good. In Chapter XI, ... ...t evil is but the absence of good. I feel that God did make everything good, and it is the absence of good that causes evil. People choose the road they feel like taking throughout life. I think of it this way; God started us off on this world all consisting of good and it is we who choose to become evil. This follows through with Augustineââ¬â¢s next idea, which I also agree with, in that there can be no evil where there is no good. This holds true because everybody consists of good, and evil is the absence of good, so that just concludes that in order for evil there must be good. Augustine also says that good and evil can exist at the same time, but evil cannot exist without good, however, good can exist without evil. I feel that one can embody good and evil, there are many humans like that now. Itââ¬â¢s true that evil cannot exist without good because we are only evil when we arenââ¬â¢t good, but one can be good without being evil. I hope I have made it clear that there are some points that I agree with and there are some ideas of Augustine that I donââ¬â¢t agree with. As for the way to serve God, I believe that as long as you live your life to the best of your ability, you will succeed.

Women in India, a crucial issue that most people do not have the knowledge of. When this issue is looked into in depth, it is a variety of things: unfair, brutal, repulsive, and more. Unfortunately, most women in India have been treated unfairly for longer than can be remembered. When it is boiled down, it comes down to one component: religion. To get a primary view of the problem, the following is an example of what goes on every day. A girl, probably in her twenties, was coming home from a movie on the bus. A group of six men then ganged up on her and brutally raped her (Singh, 2013). As stated, events such as these go on almost daily. There are many instances of gender inequality in the dominant religion of Hinduism (Srivastava, 2008). Husbands treat their wives like property, and that is pretty much the root of the issue. A major factor of this subject is the concept of dowry. This concept should be well known before the issue is further dissected. Dowry is an ancient tradition where the husband gains the riches of the wife immediately after they are married (Bedi, 2012). What tends to happen is that the womanââ¬â¢s dowry does not usually satisfy the man, and this leads to devastating violence. Women are then killed in various torturous ways, such as live burning. This also leads to another major element of the problem: female infanticide. This is the unlawful killing of baby girls (BBC, 2014). Women do not want to disappoint their husbands by having a daughter, so they get rid of their unborn or newborn babies. Also, daughters cause a financial burden to the family, so families would want to dispose of them ( BBC, 2014). Also, men are far more educated than women in India, and that leads to more problems. Yes, awfully tragic, bu... ...n. Additionally, it should be known that currently, there is no special law in India against sexual assault or harassment (Pidd, 2012). The attempted solution mentioned prior is very general, and it is geared towards many different countries. India needs a specific, well-enforced law against these sorts of entities; they are not to be taken lightly. Innumerable women suffer from all types of sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies because of this. Countries such as the United States could possibly help with this. Stringent procedures must be put into effect when this type of issue is reported. Unlike what is going on now, a law of this manner must be meticulously enforced at all times. If the proper steps are taken, eventually, the issue could subside. For now, the nationââ¬â¢s problems will most likely remain the same, tearing apart society even further.

The Women from The Odyssey, The Wife of Bath, and Sir Gawain Essay
The Women from The Odyssey, The Wife of Bath, and Sir Gawain à à à à à Until recently, the role of women in literature has seemed to reflect the way they were treated in society. Women were seen as secondary to men, and their sole purpose in life was to please a manââ¬â¢s every desire. This is not the case in three specific literary works. The Odyssey, The Wife of Bath, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight use the actions of its women characters to greatly enhance important thematic elements. The women in each of these works use feminine psyche to persuade men to do things that men of the time would not usually do. The use of women in these literary works is very contrary to the prevailing ideals of the female and her responsibilities at the time each was written. In each case, the woman possesses an almost supernatural power to influence others to do as she requests. Though it is somewhat premature to assume that the authors of these pieces started a feminist revolution, they most definitely allowed women to be seen with a respect that the female had never enjoyed. à à à à à The Odyssey contains many female characters that influence the entire climax. Athena is an obvious example, because as a goddess and fan of Odysseus, she is able to create supernatural occurrences to help Odysseus to survive. But to include her as a woman is not feasible, because she is an immortal god. The true female heroine of The Odyssey is Penelope, the loving and devoted wife of Odysseus. She fits the perfect mold of an excellent mother and faithful wife. Although Odysseus is believed to be dead, she does not marry again and does everything in her power to prevent this from happening. She is able to use trickery and deceit to avoid the suitors without allowing them to find out what she is doing. She has informed her men-in-waiting that she will marry when she finishes weaving her shroud. She works all day on it and secretly undoes her work at night while they are sleeping. In this case, Penelope is seen as smart and cunning, and she is being faithful to her husband and at the same time, she does not have to blatantly disrespect the suitors. At the time this was written, it was almost impossible for a woman of her stature to avoid remarrying immediately. Another way that Penelope is seen as loyal and exceptional as a woman is the test that she gives Odysseus when he returns home in disgui... ...in literary works has often reflected the way that women were viewed at the time of each workââ¬â¢s creation. For three works, The Odyssey, The Wife of Bath, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, each author chose to oppose the prevailing view. The characters that these women play are crucial to the heroââ¬â¢s success or failure. Each woman is able to overcome adversity and oppression to prevail over the male sex. By doing so, they can be viewed as being a role model to all the women who read these works. Even though, there may not have been noticeable changes in the way women were treated in each workââ¬â¢s respective time period, they serve as a divergence away from traditional values and set a framework for further success in equality. Significance of Delegation in Nursing
The Significance of Imparting Delegation to Nursing Students Johannes Gonzalez Aquinas College N232 Trends and Technology in Nursing Changes in the health care system and the nursing shortage have been a major cause of the transformation in primary care for the patients. Hospitals are now using unlicensed assistive personnel who help provide direct as well as indirect care for patients under the supervision of nurses. This change will demand that nurses have a sharper understanding of delegation.Teaching future nursing students how to delegate different responsibilities using their communication and critical thinking skills should be a significant subject in schools. Schools should focus on studentsââ¬â¢ active learning techniques to enhance this skill. Some of these techniques can be didactic content, case studies, and clinical placement. These learning techniques will consequently assist the nursing students realize the importance of delegation thus preparing them more comprehen sively for their future career. When students use these methods, they increase their competence on the subject of delegation. This article allows students understand the importance of delegation in the health care system today. A positive point of view from this article is how the author gives different examples of why is vital to teach delegation to nursing students. As a nursing student, I was able to experience how essential delegation is at a clinical setting by using the learning activity called clinical placement. Clinical placement allowed me to additionally understand how I can use critical thinking to delegate different tasks to other team members. There was one negative aspect to this article in my opinion. The author failed to provide actual examples of how delegation can be use in care facilities. I believe there are many things that students can learn from this article. The major key is how students can foster delegation skills by combining the active learning techniques from education and the clinical involvement from the healthcare facility. Reference Powell, R. How Is Technology Affecting People Psychologically? Essay
In 1922, a doctorââ¬â¢s kit was the most desired toy in the United States. Almost all toys on the website ââ¬Å"Hot Holiday Toys for 2012â⬠were either electronic or electronic related. These toys range from Furbuddy, an electronic pet that talks, to Nintendo and Wiiââ¬â¢ games and gaming systems. What impact is technology having on people? Today, with thousands of video games offered; nearly 1 billion users on Facebook; and the average person checking their phone close to 75 times per day, one can only wonder how this affects people psychologically. This can be seen in how the internet offers amazing information and opportunities that have changed the way people communicate. Internet World Stats website cites that the internet users have grown over 566% since 2000. Ease of access to information and communication is, of course, a big reason to use the internet, but is there more to it? Is the ability to control completely the information one reads and the people one interacts with a part of this draw to the internet? The person who holds the mouse is in control when he or she surfs the web. He or she chooses which sites to go to and which people to interact with. In many ways the user feels safe. If something negative online occurs, one can simply exit the site. On Facebook, if someone posts something the user doesnââ¬â¢t like, the user can block the sender or ââ¬Å"unfriendâ⬠the offending person. Unfortunately, this negative online interaction is all too frequent. Cyber bullying is the act of bullying using electronic technology. It has become so serious that laws have been passed to outlaw it; going as far as jail time. Cyber bullying occurs with one out of six children. It can be devastating because it can happen 24 hours per day and every day of the week. The worst part about Cyber bullying is that it can even happen when the victim is alone. Cyberbullying Research Center states, ââ¬Å"There have been many high profile and tragic incidents in the media in recent years which have linked adolescent suicides to experiences with cyber bullying.â⬠The technology used in this type of bullying ranges from cell phones, social media sites, to chat rooms. It has become such a problem that many schools have created programs to discuss the harmful effects it causes. Cyber bullying is an example of the disinhibition effect. Psychologists have created this term meaning when people online loosen up, feel more uninhibited, and express themselves more than they ever would in a face to face conversation. It can be threatening and hurtful as in cyber bullying; or it can be what psychologist call benign disinhibition. This is when a person reveals secret emotions, fears and wishes. The user may share too much about themselves, but overall it is not harmful. This sharing of experiences has been seen as a very positive experience when regarding veterans. Many times soldiers come back from war and have feelings about their experiences that they feel civilians do not understand. Sites and chat rooms have been created to fill this need. As John Suler author of The Psychology of Cyberspace states they donââ¬â¢t have to worry about how others look or sound when they ââ¬Å"sayâ⬠something. Seeing a frown, a shaking head, a sigh, a bored expression, and many other signs of disapproval or indifference can stop what people are willing to express. Not being able to see expressions of a personââ¬â¢s feelings, leads to one expressing themselves more openly. This has created support for not just veterans, but others who reach out to people ââ¬Å"like themâ⬠so they can connect and feel understood. Another group who seek to connect with each other are gamers. Video games have exploded in popularity since 1947. Now over 72 percent of the Americans play video games. Video games have been proven to increase decision-making skills which come in handy in a fast-paced world. They have also been proven to improve men and womenââ¬â¢s ability to picture 3D objects states U.S Department of Defense researchers. However, as much they may be helping gamers with thinking skills; violent video games are certainly not helping with violent behavior. A study was done with two groups of college students; group one played a violent video game and group two played a nonviolent video game. The researchers measured how the students felt and how they behaved. Social Psychologist Brad Bushman at Ohio State University showed the groups two violent pictures: one of a man shoving a gun down another manââ¬â¢s throat; another of a man holding a knife to a womanââ¬â¢s throat. ââ¬Å"What we found is for people who were exposed to a lot of violent video games; their brains did not respond to the violent images,â⬠Bushman said. ââ¬Å"They were numb, if you will.â⬠People who play violent video games become numb to the violence they see. Knowing this, one may find it disturbing to know that the top three most sold video games in the US, are all listed by Parenting website in ââ¬Å"The 10 most violent video games to avoid.â⬠list. Does playing violent video games increase violence or just make the user numb to it? That is still to be determined. The positive effects of technology are as endless as imagination. The amazing ability to instantly have knowledge at your fingertips any time of the day or night is one benefit it is hard to imagine being without. Being able to connect with a friend continents away is a wonderful gift that keeps people in touch with each other. But like most things; technology has a negative side like cyber bullying; and the violence in video games open to children a keystroke away. Technology has no doubt changed the world, but the question becomes does the positive outweigh the negative and if so, what should be done about the negative aspects?

Claims vs Arguments Essay
Claims is defined as, ââ¬Å"a statement asserts something to be the case or not the caseâ⬠(Critical Thinking: Issues, Claims, Arguments, 2011), which is consistent with the definition given by Wood (2012,Topic 1,p.7), which states that a claim is an assertion or demand for recognition of a truth, an example of a claim is ââ¬Å"Organizational behavior is an essential subjectâ⬠. And I agreed with the two definitions on claims because, based on my personal experience as a former team member of my collegeââ¬â¢s debate team, everyone is allowed to make claims over the subject that was chosen to be debated. On the other hand, an argument is defined as, ââ¬Å"sets of propositions (claims/statements) which contain premises that are offered to support the truth of a conclusionâ⬠(May,2010), or in another words, it means ââ¬Å"trying to convince each other on things we donââ¬â¢t agree onâ⬠(Critical Thinking: Issues, Claims, Arguments, 2011). Using the above example, others may not agree on my claim and say ââ¬Å"Organization Behavior is not an essential subjectâ⬠, this is where an argument begins and to support it, there are 3 ways to do so, supporting an argument with authority, evidence and a persuasive writing style. Supporting an argument with authority means, ââ¬Å"To bolster an argument is to use the word of an expertâ⬠, (Roberts, 2010). However, there are pros and cons to this statement, the pros are because he/she is an expert, and has been in his area of speciality for many years, therefore, his/her words can be reliable and can be used to support an argument. But not forgetting that the words he/she said could be based on his/her personal opinion and could contain certain level of biasness. For example, ââ¬Å"Organisational Behaviour is an essential subjectâ⬠because my lecturers said so, this may not be convincing enough. To further ââ¬Å"enhanceâ⬠your argument, it needs to be supported with evidences, such as facts personal experience or an actual event. A strong thesis also requires solid evidence to support and develop it because without evidence, a claim is merely an unsubstantiated idea or opinion (Indiana University Bloomington, 2010), I agree because solid evidence will provide the competitive advantage over others. For example, ââ¬Å"Organisational Behaviour is an essential subject because as a team leader in a multi-racial company, I applied what Iââ¬â¢ve learnt on managing for diversity, not only does it prevent inter-racial conflicts, it also improves the companyââ¬â¢s productivity.â⬠This is obviously a better argument compared to earlier argument. Lastly, after gathering all evidence, we need to try to get the readers to agree on our argument; this is where persuasive writing style comes in handy. According to Landsberger (1996), in persuasive writing, we try to convince others to agree with our facts, share our values, accept our argument and conclusion. CONCLUSION In conclusion, the difference is that claims are statements made by someone on a certain issue, whereas an argument occurs when others do not agree and wishes to argue with their own claims. An argument needs to be support with authority, evidences and persuasive writing, evidences is the most important factor in my opinion as arguments are mostly based on facts, and facts needs to be accurate and be related to the argument as much as possible.

The Silver Linings Playbook Chapter 28
I Will Have to Require a First-Place Victory ââ¬Å"Question number one,â⬠my father says. ââ¬Å"How many touchdowns will McNabb throw against the Saints?â⬠I can hardly believe I am actually eating a sit-down meal with my father. Mom smiles at me as she winds spaghetti around her fork. She even shoots me a wink. Now don't get me wrong, I am happy that Mom's plan has worked out, and I am delighted to be eating a meal with my father, having a conversation even ââ¬â and I am especially happy to see my parents playing with love again ââ¬â but I also know my father, and I worry that a single Eagles loss will turn Dad back into a grump. I worry for Mom, but decide to ride out the moment. ââ¬Å"Ten touchdowns,â⬠I tell my father. Dad smiles, pops a small sausage into his mouth, chews enthusiastically, and then tells my mother, ââ¬Å"Pat says ten touchdowns.â⬠ââ¬Å"Maybe eleven,â⬠I add, just to be optimistic. ââ¬Å"Question number two. How many touchdowns will undrafted rookie sensation Hank Baskett catch?â⬠Now, I fully realize that Baskett has only caught one TD in the first five games, but I also know my family is being overly optimistic tonight, so I say, ââ¬Å"Seven.â⬠ââ¬Å"Seven?â⬠Dad says, but smiling. ââ¬Å"Seven.â⬠ââ¬Å"He says seven, Jeanie. Seven!â⬠To me Dad says, ââ¬Å"Question number three. In what quarter will quarterback Drew Brees finally suffer a concussion because he has been sacked so many times by the Eagles' superior defense?â⬠ââ¬Å"Um. That's a tough one. The third quarter?â⬠ââ¬Å"That is incorrect,â⬠my father says, shaking his head in mock disappointment. ââ¬Å"First quarter is the correct answer. Question four. When are you going to bring home that broad you're always running with? When are you going to introduce your girlfriend to your father?â⬠When Dad finishes asking question four, he slurps a load of spaghetti into his mouth and then begins chewing. When I fail to respond, he encourages me with his left hand, tracing invisible circles with his index finger. ââ¬Å"Did you see that Pat found his wedding pictures and put them back up in the living room?â⬠Mom says, and her voice sort of quivers. ââ¬Å"Jake told me you were over Nikki,â⬠Dad says. ââ¬Å"He said you were into this Tiffany broad. No?â⬠ââ¬Å"May I be excused?â⬠I ask my mother, because my little scar is itching, and I feel as though I might explode if I don't start banging my fist against my forehead. When my mother nods, I see sympathy in her eyes, which I appreciate. I lift for a few hours, until I no longer feel the need to punch myself. In the new reflector vest my mother has recently bought for me, I run through the night. I was going to open Tiffany's letter this evening because I was so excited about having dinner with my father, but now I know I am most definitely not in a good mood, so opening the letter would be a violation of the rules Tiffany clearly laid out for me two nights ago. I almost opened the letter last night, when I was in an excellent mood, but it hadn't been forty-eight hours. As I run, I try to think about Nikki and the end of apart time, which always makes me feel better. I pretend that God has made a bet with me and if I run fast enough, He will bring Nikki back, so I begin sprinting the last two miles of my run. Soon I'm running so fast, it's amazing ââ¬â faster than any human being has ever run before. In my mind I hear God tell me I have to do the last mile in under four minutes, which I know is almost impossible, but for Nikki I try. I run even faster, and when I am a block away, I hear God counting down from ten in my mind. ââ¬Å"Five ââ¬â four ââ¬â three ââ¬â two ââ¬â â⬠And when my right foot lands on the first concrete square of my parents' sidewalk, God says ââ¬Å"One,â⬠which means I ran fast enough ââ¬â that I made it home before God said ââ¬Å"Zero.â⬠I am so happy. I am so impossibly happy! My parents' bedroom door is closed when I go upstairs, so I shower and then slip under my comforter. I pull Tiffany's envelope from under the mattress of my bed. I take a deep breath. I open the letter. As I read the several typed pages, my mind explodes with conflicting emotions and awful needs. Pat, Read this letter start to finish! Do not make any decisions until you have read the entire letter! Do not read this letter unless you are alone! Do not show this letter to anyone! When you have finished reading this letter, burn it ââ¬â immediately! Do you ever feel like you're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks? Well, there was nothing I could do to bring my Tommy back, and the inability to accept his death kept me ill for two whole years ââ¬â but then you came into my life. Why? At first I thought, God is sending me a new man, a replacement for my Tommy, which made me mad, because Tommy is irreplaceable (no offense). But when I listened to the way you talked about Nikki, I realized God had sent you to me so I might help you find the end of apart time. This was to be my mission. And so I have been working on it. ââ¬Å"What?â⬠I can hear you saying right now. ââ¬Å"How can my friend Tiffany end apart time?â⬠Well, this is the part that might make you mad. Are you ready, Pat? Brace yourself. I've been talking to your Nikki on the phone ââ¬â regularly. Every night for the past two weeks. I got the phone number from Veronica, who ââ¬â through Ronnie's conversations with your mom ââ¬â has been providing Nikki with information about you ever since you were permanently assigned to that neural health facility in Baltimore. It turns out that your family banned Nikki from obtaining information about you, which they could do because Nikki divorced you soon after you were permanently admitted. I know this bit of news has most likely upset you terribly. Sorry, but it's best just to state things plainly at this point. Don't you think? Okay, this next part is bad too. Nikki was able to divorce you because you committed a crime, which you do not remember. (I am not going to tell you what that crime was, because you have probably blocked it from your memory intentionally; most likely, you are not yet mentally ready to deal with this very frightening reality. My therapist Dr. Lily and I theorize that you will remember committing this crime when you are mentally and emotionally ready.) Nikki was granted a divorce and all your assets, and in exchange, someone else dropped all charges against you. Of course, the deal also sent you to the bad place indefinitely for ââ¬Å"rehabilitation.â⬠You agreed to all of the above at the time and were deemed to be ââ¬Å"of sound mindâ⬠by your therapist Dr. Timbers, but soon after being put away for good, you ââ¬Å"lostâ⬠your memory and your marbles as well. I am not telling you all of this to be mean ââ¬â quite the contrary. Remember, God put me in charge of helping you end apart time. It turns out Nikki has wanted to communicate with you very much. She misses you. This is not to say she wants to marry you all over again. I want to be clear about this. She still remembers what you did ââ¬â the crime you committed. And she is a little afraid of you as well, as she fears you might be mad at her and want to retaliate. But she was married to you for years and she wants to see you well, and maybe even become friends again. I have reported your desire to reconcile with Nikki. To be honest, your desire is much stronger than hers. But you never know what might happen if you begin to communicate again. Two problems: One. After you committed that crime, Nikki took out a restraining order against you, so technically it is illegal for you to contact her. Two. Your parents ââ¬â on your behalf, and probably in retaliation ââ¬â took out a restraining order against Nikki, claiming any contact she made could jeopardize your mental health. So it is also illegal for her to contact you. Even still, Nikki would like to communicate with you, if only to smooth over what happened. Her guilt is glaring. She walked away with all your assets, and you had to spend years in a mental institution, right? So. Coming to the point. I am offering myself as a liaison. The two of you can communicate through me, and there will be no trouble. You will be able to write Nikki letters ââ¬â one every two weeks. I will read these letters to Nikki over the phone. She will be able to dictate her responses to me, again over the phone, which I will type up on my laptop, print out, and present to you. Pat, we are friends, and I value our friendship very much. That having been said, you must appreciate that what I am offering puts me in a very precarious position. If you decide to take me up on my offer, I would be putting myself at risk legally, and also I would be jeopardizing our friendship. I need to inform you that I will not be your liaison for free, but am offering you a trade. What do I want? Remember when I said I was scouting you? Well, I want to win this year's Dance Away Depression competition, and I need a strong man to do it. ââ¬Å"What is Dance Away Depression?â⬠I hear you asking. Well ââ¬â it is an annual competition organized by the Philadelphia Psychiatric Association that allows women diagnosed with clinical depression to transform their despair into movement. The sole focus is supposed to be diminishing depression through use of the body, but judges award a wreath of flowers to the second-best dance routine and a golden trophy to the first-place dance routine. Dancing solo, I have won that fucking wreath two years straight, and this year I want to win the golden trophy. This is where you figure in, Pat. God sent me the strongest man I have ever met in my entire life; tell me this isn't divine intervention. Only a man with your muscles could perform the type of lifts I have in mind ââ¬â award-winning lifts, Pat. The competition will be held at the Plaza Hotel in center city, on a Saturd ay night ââ¬â November 11th. Which gives us just under a month to practice. I know the routine already, but you'll be starting from scratch, and we both will have to practice the lifts. This will take a lot of time. I told Nikki about my conditions, and she wants to encourage you to be my dance partner. She says you need to broaden your interests, and that she had always wanted to take dance lessons with you. So it is more than okay with her; she encourages you to do this. Also, I'm afraid I will have to require a first-place victory in exchange for being your liaison. Lucky for you, the routine I have choreographed is first-rate. But in order to win, you will have to immerse yourself in dance. Below are the non-negotiable conditions. Should you decide to be my dance partner, you will: Give up Eagles football for the duration of our training. No going to games. No watching games on television. No discussing Eagles football with anyone. No reading the sports pages. You may not even wear your beloved Baskett jersey. End your weight training by two o'clock each afternoon, at which point we will go for a five-mile run, after which we will rehearse from 4:15 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on weekdays. On weekends we will rehearse from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. No exceptions. Make sure at least 15 of your friends and relatives attend the dance recital, because the judges are often swayed by applause. Do whatever I say without asking any questions. Assure I win the competition. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Tell no one about our arrangement. You can tell people you are training for a dance competition, but you cannot tell anyone about my demands and my contacting Nikki on your behalf ââ¬â never ever. Should you meet all six demands, I will act as a liaison between Nikki and you; I will attempt to end apart time, and then who knows what will happen between you and your ex-wife. If you fail to meet my demands, I am afraid you might never talk to Nikki again. She says this is your only shot. Contact me within 24 hours with your decision. Reread my list of demands, memorize each, and then burn this letter. Remember, if you want me to be your liaison, tell no one I am in contact with Nikki. With best intentions, Tiffany I reread the letter over and over all night. Parts I do not want to believe are true ââ¬â especially the parts about my committing a crime and Nikki divorcing me, which are ideas that make me feel like smashing my fist against my forehead. What type of crime would put me in such a situation, and who would drop charges when I checked myself into a neural health facility? I can understand Nikki's divorcing me because I was a bad husband, especially because, well, I was a bad husband. But I have a hard time believing I actually committed a crime that could result in such drastic legal measures. And yet Tiffany's letter seems to explain so much ââ¬â my mother's taking down my wedding pictures, all the awful things Jake and Dad said about Nikki. If I am really divorced, everything my family has done to keep Nikki out of my memory would have been for my protection, especially since they are not optimistic enough to realize that I am not dead and therefore still have at least a shot at getting Nikki back, which I don't have to tell you is the silver lining to the letter. Of course, I cannot be sure about anything, since I have no memory of the past few years. Maybe Tiffany made up the story just to get me to perform in her dance competition. This is possible. I certainly would not have volunteered to be her partner, even if I am practicing being kind now. I realize that Tiffany's letter might be a trick, but the possibility of communicating with Nikki is too good to chance ââ¬â as it may be my last opportunity. Also, Tiffany's mentioning God's will seems to suggest that she understands what apart time is all about. It makes sense that Nikki would want me to take dancing lessons. She always wanted me to dance with her, but I never did. The thought of dancing with Nikki in the future is enough to make me accept that I will be missing the three Eagles games before the bye week, including the home game against Jacksonville. I think about how angry this will make my father, Jake, and maybe even Cliff, but then I think about the possibility of finally living out the happy ending to my movie ââ¬â getting Nikki back ââ¬â and the choice is obvious. When the sun comes up, I open the window in the downstairs bathroom, burn the letter over the toilet, and flush the charred remains. Next, I run across Knight's Park, jog around the Websters' house, and knock on Tiffany's door. She answers in a red silk nightgown, squinting at me. ââ¬Å"Well?â⬠ââ¬Å"When do we start training?â⬠I ask. ââ¬Å"Are you ready to commit fully? Ready to give up every-thing ââ¬â even Eagles football?â⬠I nod eagerly. ââ¬Å"Only I can't miss my therapy sessions on Fridays, because some judge will send me back to the bad place if I do, and then we won't be able to win the competition.â⬠ââ¬Å"I'll be outside your house tomorrow at two o'clock,â⬠Tiffany says, and then shuts the door. The first floor of Tiffany's in-law suite is a dance studio. All four walls are completely covered by full-length mirrors, and three have railings like you see ballerinas using. The floor is hardwood, like a pro-basketball court, only without any painted lines and with a lighter varnish. The ceiling is high, maybe thirty feet tall, and a spiral staircase in the corner leads to Tiffany's apartment. ââ¬Å"I had this built when Tommy died,â⬠Tiffany says. ââ¬Å"I used the insurance money. Do you like my studio?â⬠I nod. ââ¬Å"Good, because it's going to be home for the next month. Did you bring your photograph?â⬠I open the bag that Tiffany instructed me to bring and pull out my framed picture of Nikki; I show it to Tiffany, and then she walks over to the stereo system behind the spiral staircase. From an iron hook on the wall she removes a pair of headphones ââ¬â the kind that cover your entire ears like earmuffs ââ¬â and brings them to me. A very long cord is attached. ââ¬Å"Sit,â⬠she says. I drop to the floor and sit with my legs crossed. ââ¬Å"I'm going to play our song, the one we are going to dance to. It's important that you feel a deep connection with this song. It needs to move you if it's going to flow through your body. I've picked this song for a reason. It's perfect for both of us, which you'll soon see. When I put the headphones on you, I want you to stare into Nikki's eyes. I want you to feel the song. Understand?â⬠ââ¬Å"It's not a song played by a soprano saxophonist, is it?â⬠I ask, because Kenny G is my nemesis, as you know. ââ¬Å"No,â⬠she says, and then places the headphones on my ears. My ears are enveloped in the padding. Wearing the headphones makes me feel as if I am alone in this large room, even though if I look up, Tiffany will be there. With the frame in my hands, I stare into Nikki's eyes, and soon the song begins to play. Piano notes ââ¬â slow and sad. Two voices taking turns singing. Pain. I know the song. Tiffany was right. It is the perfect song for both of us. The song builds, the voices become more emotional, and everything inside of my chest starts to hurt. The words express exactly what I have felt since I was released from the bad place. And by the chorus, I am sobbing, because the woman singing seems to feel exactly what I am feeling, and her words, and her emotion, and her voice â⬠¦ The song ends with the same sad piano notes that began the number. I look up and realize that Tiffany has been watching me cry, and I begin to feel embarrassed. I set my photo of Nikki down on the floor and cover my face with my hands. ââ¬Å"I'm sorry. Just give me a second.â⬠ââ¬Å"It's good that the song makes you cry, Pat. Now we just have to transform those tears into motion. You need to cry through your dancing? Understand?â⬠I do not understand, but I nod anyway.

Atomic Spectra Lab Report Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Atomic Spectra - Lab Report Example Each element have different energy level orbital, due to which, electron movement from one orbital to another is different for each element. As the wavelength of emitted radiations depends on the difference between the energy level of these orbital and so the line spectra, thatââ¬â¢s why different elements have different line spectra. Yes, the element will emit the same line spectrum if a different excitation source is used. The energy orbital (in which the electron revolve) are fixed in an element. The electron at lower energy orbit will take some specific amount of energy (irrespective of, it is coming from electricity or flame) and go to some higher orbit. And on return will emit the same energy in the form of photon of particular wavelength. When the light is passed through an element, the element absorbs certain wavelengths while the rest of the wavelength pass through it. This spectrum is called absorption spectrum. The absorb wavelength appear as bright while the background is bright. No, there is no ambiguity in determining the identity of the unknown as there are very less chance (negligible) that spectral lines of any two compounds match. The contamination of dust particles over the unknown is the most problematic error that can occur. Octadecene is a hazard chemical. Its vapor should not be inhaled, and contact with skin and eyes should be avoided. Trioctylphosphine is a corrosive chemical and it causes burns. Oleic acid is a very light and heat sensitive. It is irritating to eyes, the respiratory system, and the skin. The safety precautions that should be taken are Wearing gloves and eye protection. Working should be done in fume hood environment and care should be taken in handling reagents. The disposal of waste should be proper. 2. (1 pt.) 'Rebel Without a Cause' Film Review Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
'Rebel Without a Cause' Film Review - Essay Example In order to discern the position, it is important to look at the outstanding question that Jim Stark ask his father while considering the embodiment of manhood; ââ¬Å"What can you do when you have to be a man?â⬠(Ray II). When asking the question, Jim expects a clear and conclusive solution, but the fatherââ¬â¢s inability to give a precise answer points in a way to the question of masculinity among the characters in the movie. People wonder why there is not one definite answer explaining who a real man is. Is it that Mr. Stark is not sure of what it takes to be a man? Maybe there is more than one way of answering the question. One plausible thing in this scenario is that the society in which the movie is set provides only one standard model of manhood; that of a tough, hyper-masculine male. There seems to be numerous instances in the movie during which this assertion of a hyper-masculine male is ideologically shifted and distorted. For instance, when Jim gets back home, he finds his dad rushing to bring food to Jimââ¬â¢s mother afore she awakens. Jim becomes disgusted at just how diminished his fatherââ¬â¢s masculinity has become and begged him to stop getting submissive. It is clear that Jimââ¬â¢s disgust stems from his worries regarding the apparent inversion of gender roles. It is plausible in Jimââ¬â¢s character that something urgent needs to be done in order to re-define the true meaning of masculinity, and hence manhood. This explains why he cannot accept his fatherââ¬â¢s submissiveness to the mother. Out of frustration, he grabs his father and pushes him across the room. This action seems to encompass Jimââ¬â¢s desire to re-awaken the ââ¬Å"manâ⬠in his father. According to Jim, the father has become an emasculated patriarch in this matriarchal society. When one turns to Frankââ¬â¢s life in the movie, it is notable that he has control over his activities, leaving him with little room to assert his masculinity. Indeed, his masculinity has
